Lost Exit 20
The Saugerties Junction on the NY State Thruway now exits at NY 32 and NY 212 about two miles west of the Village of Saugerties, however, that was not always the case, at one time the junction was two miles north of it's current location, at MP 103, where the Malden Turnpike-Ulster County Highway 34-crosses over the Thruway. Interestingly enough, it was also a two-quadrant cloverleaf junction, just like modern Exit 20, the difference being that the ramps are in the opposite quadrants relative to today's junction.

You get a better shot of that good old cable guardrail here. These ramps are concrete.
And if you keep following the old ramps you end up in back of the Malden Service Area on the Thruway, in a car park-I assume the car park is for service area employees. Unlike Pennsylvania, NY doesn't allow outside public access to it's service areas.
And here's a snap of the Malden Service Area
Here's a snap of the southern ramp-It's not used for anything and the grass is slowly taking over the surface. Not visible in this snap is the 2' mound of dirt that blocks this roadway off. You can barely see the barricade at the end of the road.
And now the Thruway end, the Parking area in the right hand side of the picture.

Okay, Junior Engineers, what's wrong with this picture? Whoever joined this guardrail to this abutment must've been pretty lazy-it SHOULD lap over the end of the abutment. The slot and the two bolt holes are from the original guardrailing, which was a four-cable affair, that lead right into the slot; which is pretty common on a lot of bridges around here.
